End of 2022
Posted 2 years agoIt's December 31! End of the year/beginning of a new one. I had planned to go to the New Years Furry Ball, which is tonight, but by the time I was ready to commit to a hotel, they were sold out. One bad thing about winter cons is the possibility of snow and ice threatening travel, so I wanted to be relatively sure that the weather was going to cooperate before making solid plans for NYFB. So anyway, I'll be spending New Years Eve at home this year, which actually worked out for me as I started feeling bad last evening and am not well this weekend.
Important- I saw an announcement here on FA that they will be closing the forums tonight at midnight. Closing the forums.
https://www.furaffinity.net/journal.....r#jid:10411624
I'm not sure what a "forum" is, but if it means shutting down the entire FA site, I will be sorry to see it go. I like FA. I've been here for a long time, know how it works, and enjoy surfing the art galleries. They said something else will come in its place, like Discord I believe it was, but I'm not familiar with that, and don't know if art will be postable/surfable anymore, etc. The new one might not even be an art site, which would be a drag. I hate "figuring new things out" (have been having an awful time at work the last 8 months struggling with major software/policy changes). NOT a fan of change.
So if my interpretation of "closing the forums" is correct, I guess this will be my last journal entry here. If my interpretation is not correct, please someone let me know.
Wishing you all a happy new 2023!
Update: Special thank you to Lauren Rivers and Velatian for explaining what the "FA forum" was and letting me know that FurAffinity is staying alive and well!

Reflecting on 2018, part 1
Posted 6 years agoWhile most everyone else was doing this the final week of December or the first week of January, I am just now finally getting around to reflecting on my 2018 year experiences. Too long to post all in one part, so I'll review my cons in this part 1, and hopefully get around to my other life events later:
Happy to say I made it to 4 conventions in 2018: Furthe'more, Furrydelphia, FA:United, and the New Year's Furry Ball.
My highlight of Furthe'more was the dance competition, with the appearance of Dibs Dingo as "Drag" Dibs. Absolutely loved this character!! Now this fursuiter is a favorite of mine. Good dancer, too! See the performance here --> https://youtu.be/3IgPQQCfflo
Finally tried out my new DSLR camera. Thought a lot of the pics were coming out blurry, but later when I looked at them on the computer, most of them looked great! Never posted any, though. Also attended the Foxes & Peppers concert, that's always good. Went to a "Parents in the Fandom" panel run by guest artist Kalika, where I was able to show off my Leostarr partial to a number of families attending. Saw West and her pretty new tiger fursuit Mai Tai. Met some nice new friends (Mabel & Mochan, among others), and got to see Cricket Deer again (who had moved far away but flew back to visit for the con). Had a nice home-cooked dinner with friends Cheesbeagle and Tigris before I left for home on Sunday night.
I was able to attend Furrydelphia on a one day Saturday pass. I got to fursuit a number of times, and met a mother and daughter fursuiting together in the headless lounge (amazing realistic German Shepherd fullsuit). A number of familiar fursuiters were at this con. I picked up some artwork that was owed me (that I commissioned & paid for 3 years prior)... actually that was the primary motivation for me to come to this con, to track down the artist and push the issue... I did that and I finally got the art. Mission accomplished.
Saw Sarahcat there! And Nevask! And Buttsteak! And Kalika! Watched Von Diggity Dog's Furries Got Talent show, which was great. Just like FTM, I took a bunch of pictures but never posted them anywhere.
Big con of the year for me was FA:United in VA. Got my own room (which I plan to do from now on) for this con, which was a nice peaceful refuge when I needed to get away for rest and quality alone time. Really nice room, too! Went to a number of interesting panels, performed "Nights in White Satin" at the talent show on my flute, and saw a number of friends. One of the highlights of this con for me was, Friday night I was down the hallway in the corner by myself playing the piano that was there, in fursuit, and all of a sudden there was applause, and (surprised) I looked up to see 3 nice attendees complimenting my playing! Made me feel great. One of them was a fursuiter named Poptart. All 3 of them came to the talent show the next day to support me in my flute performance. Thanks, new friends! Loved the dance competition- was good to see Dibs Dingo out on the dance floor again, and I always look forward to Neko's dance performances. Went to a Dance Workshop panel which had attendee participation... it was a bit intimidating but also very encouraging. Found someone's lost art badge lying out in the parking lot and, with the help of some others, was able to find and return it to the owner before they left on Sunday afternoon. My weekend at FA:U was a really refreshing get-away vacation, which was much needed.
And, I finally made it to the New Year's Furry Ball! With female company this time, too (I'm usually by myself); happy to say she had a great time. Got our own room; hotel was beautiful and was the most luxurious room I ever had. Brought my DSLR camera (which had not been used since FTM) and got a bunch of pictures. Most of my phone pictures turned out blurry, so was glad I had the big camera along as well. Everyone I saw behaved in a decent, civilized manner. They opened the bar for free drinks before dinner which was cool, and the buffet dinner was wonderful. Saw Cheesebeagle and Tigris, Sarahcat, Kimmi Cocoa, Dibs Dingo, Poptart, DeStar, and a lot of other fursuiters. Mabel and Mochan, who I had met at FTM, were there too. Best New Year's Eve party I've ever been to. Rang in the new year with champagne. By 1 am, everything seemed to be over and no fursuiters could be found.

FTM19 status
Posted 6 years agoSnow is falling again outside right now. Not laying on the roads or sidewalks yet, but that will change as the temperature drops. Prediction is 4 to 8 inches. Or 3 to 7. We'll see. Looking to be a cold week. Well, it's March. One more month to make it through, then the worry of winter weather will be mostly (if not all) behind me. For this year. One major reason not to schedule important events requiring travel over January, February, or March. It's hit or miss.
For this reason, I have not preregistered for FTM (FurThe'More) this year. The moving up a month of this con from April to March is a mixed blessing. On the positive, it balances out the cons I like to attend by more evenly spacing them with approximately 3 months of recovery time in between each. This is good, especially for finances. But having a con in March also increases the risk of having ice and snow, making travel dangerous or impossible. So I can't guarantee I'll be able to go because I don't know what the weather is going to be like. Not going to commit to nonrefundable con expenses such as registration and a hotel room when weather could strike and cancel it all. The drive down is a haul for me normally, and would be horrible in snow & ice. That would majorly suck.
If the weather is good, I contemplated coming down last minute and attending Saturday only, then going back home Sat night which wouldn't be a problem, but found out FTM does not do single day passes. I'd have to pay for Saturday and Sunday together. Staying over to Sunday would be fine I guess, I'd get two days out of it... but then I'd have to get a hotel room, and I'm thinking at this late point that's going to be too much for me. A positive take from this is, if I don't go to FTM and don't get a hotel room, this greatly increases the chance for me to attend Anthrocon this July, which I haven't been to since 2015.
So I'm not planning to go to FTM this year. You know, I never bother with the convention themes but this year I really like the theme- 007 James Bond! I was going to walk around the con wearing my black suit with white dress shirt and a black bow tie, taking pictures with my DSLR (sort of a Bond cosplay). I will especially miss the dance competitions & all the amazing fursuiters of course. But I'm good. If any of the con is streamed (hope it is), I will make my best efforts to participate via livestream, as I've done with the past 3 Anthrocons. They were still really fun to watch.

Anthrocon 2018 - wasn't there but watched it live
Posted 6 years agoOnce again I "attended" Anthrocon via their livestream for 2018, as I have done for 2016 and 2017. I really didn't have anything new to show off yet or great purpose for being there this year (although I missed some new fursuiters I would have really liked to meet and photograph), and I'm in the hole money-wise, so I canceled my plans in Feb for AC2018 and stayed at home. Had a lot of fun following the con live on the stream though; spotted my friends, talked to some of them via texts, and saw the major events I would have gone to had I been there. In fact, on Monday I felt like I had been to the con, complete with PCD! Through the LiveStream, I saw:
* Thursday Night Dance
* Opening Ceremonies
* Foxes & Peppers concert
* Uncle Kage's Story Hour
* An Evening with Kage & Alkali
* Friday Night Dance
* Fursuit Parade (thankfully someone streamed this, was not on ACtv)
* Anthrocon Tonight
* Floor Wars
* Saturday Night Dance
* Dance Competition
* Closing Ceremonies
Now, I am enjoying watching videos and checking out pictures of the con as they are gradually uploaded.
However... it turned out it was a good thing I did not pursue my plans to go to Anthrocon this year. A week before the con, I drove back from a visit to the beach and the next day my car engine was suddenly overheating. Took it in for repair and turns out it was a cracked engine block, so my car was dead. Repair or a new car were both expensive options, which sends me further into debt. Went with a new engine replacement, just got my car back today. $$$ But it's kind of cool knowing my car engine is starting out with zero mileage on it. I've got to get a job that's closer to home... I probably ran this vehicle into the ground with all these years of running long distance every day.
I am excited about and planning on attending Anthrocon 2019 next summer!

Hanging out in VA, going to FTM18!
Posted 7 years agoHanging out with a good group of friends here in VA, will be heading over to the hotel tomorrow morning for Furthe'more. For those who are going, I will see you there!
Single Lens Reflex cameras
Posted 7 years agoI sold both of my 35mm SLR cameras last fall in anticipation of going digital. It was kind of sad to see them go. Didn't get much for them, either, and now I'm wondering if maybe that was a mistake. No, I guess not, as I'm not going back to using film. But I knew these cameras, and they worked.
I had a Pentax K1000 and a Chinon. Totally manual, the both of them. I wanted complete control over the photographs, and I got that with these two. Other than the light meter and the flash attachment, they were solely mechanical- no electronic "automatic" settings to add confusion, no computer circuitry of any kind. There was an ISO/ASA setting for the type of film, and a shutter speed dial, and at the base of the lens a rotating ring which set the f-stop (aperture). All these made sense to me, and while I was never fast at photography because of all the settings, I preferred this setup. Another important feature I took for granted was a little split circle in the center of the viewfinder which greatly aided in obtaining a precise manual focus.
This past Christmas I finally got myself a new camera, a DSLR. This was exciting as I've wanted to get back into the SLR world for a long time. But when I finally got it out of the box in mid-January, it wasn't what I was expecting. Many of the familiar things above were missing. For one, the little focus aid circle in the viewfinder was absent. I could focus manually but the precision was pot luck without that optical aid. The focus also felt coarse and stiff in comparison to my previous cameras. I took a second look at the lens and then realized there was no f-stop ring to manually adjust the aperture. There was a dial where the shutter speed setting was supposed to be, but no speed settings were on it. Don't like it already. Now, I'm sure it's a good piece of equipment, but I didn't want another "point and shoot" automatic camera. The whole point of this purchase was to get manual control. I bumbled through the beginning of the user's guide but got nowhere. Quickly skimmed the booklet cover to cover but could not find the features I was looking for.
Very disappointing. I removed the battery and gently put the camera back in the box. Didn't plan on forgetting about it, but that's what happened and I haven't taken it out since. I haven't taken a single picture with it yet. If buying this was a mistake, it was a hell of an expensive one. In retrospect, I should have gone to a local camera shop, checked out the product's features in person and asked questions beforehand. That's what I get for "online" shopping. Stupid.
Furthe'more 2018 is just over one week away, and I've yet to file my taxes. Also, my feet paws need work, as does the ventilation system in my lion head. That said, if I get time this week, I'm going to get this camera out again and give it another shot, though it's rather late in the game for that now. If I can figure some of it out before the con, I might bring it along; if not, it will stay at home.

2017 ==> 2018
Posted 7 years ago2017 started out normal. Can't report I had any significant accomplishments this past year, other than playing music in the Talent Show at FA:U, which went reasonably well. Made it to two furry conventions, FTM in April, and FA:U in August, which I enjoyed very much. Things started changing as Fall approached. Company I work for was bought out in September, so not sure what the future holds there. A month later my mother died in October, and I'm still in the midst of the estate stuff- will be glad when this is over. So some extreme change brought a twist to the end of 2017 for me.
Christmas was wonderful. I love it so much, the music and lights and decorations, and memories from long ago. I was so involved with the holiday spirit that I went offline from about December 23 until after New Years. Got some nice presents including a really cool new camera, a little figure of Everest from Paw Patrol, too much candy (stocking was overflowing), a nice zip up sweater, Xmas socks, and a DVD of the movie Princess Mononoke (which we just saw last weekend). I love this holiday very much, but it burned me out this year (I'm actually sick right now, finally succumbed this week). Hoping I'll be well enough to go to the local meet this weekend.
As I head into 2018, I once again hope this will be the year I can get a bodysuit fabricated for my lion. I think I've about got it figured out. Just this past week I've had a sudden necessary home improvement expense hit costing thousands, which will take years to pay off. I had hoped to maybe commission a head for one of my other characters, but not sure how soon that's going to happen with this financial setback. With what this is costing me, I could commission about 3 new fullsuits from a high grade maker. Anyway. Going to shoot for 4 conventions this year: Furthe'more, Anthrocon, FA:U, and maybe the New Years Furry Ball. Wishing all my furry friends here (and myself as well) a happy new 2018. May it be a good one!

Funeral
Posted 7 years agoI've been quiet lately and haven't been on FA (or any other furry site) for a while. My mother recently died, the funeral was last week. So for the past weeks through my period of grief I've been thinking a lot about her life, both in recent years as well as long before my time. Also thinking about life itself in general, my own life, and God, eternity, and coming to grips with my own mortality. The funeral service honored my mother more than I had hoped. I've received a lot of kind supportive words from friends and family for which I am thankful. I'm doing a lot better now, returning to normal. I've got an attorney helping me out with the financial legal matters of the estate, hope that all goes smoothly. I still don't know what "probate" means (all these weird terms).
Last Saturday Oct 28 there was a Trunk or Treat event at a local church, so at the last minute I came in there and they let me set up and give candy out to the kids as Leostarr. Public fursuiting, woohoo! My handler bailed so I did the whole thing by myself. I was the last candy station to visit in the long line-up, and, as you can imagine, my partial suit was quite a hit. My candy supply I had brought lasted reasonably long before I ran out, and I was giving out good stuff (candy bars like Reese's, Snickers, Milky Way, etc.). Not long after I had run out, the church staff noticed and resupplied me with more candy so I could continue. Nice! Thanks guys! This is probably the first time I've done something like this in fursuit for the general public (meaning, not a convention or furmeet).
In regards to the Trunk or Treat, I have to admit it was a lot of fun entertaining the kids, as well as the adults. There were a few older kids (and adults) who wouldn't even look at me, walked right past, I'm guessing my fursuit was too cute or "uncool" for them. But then there were some little kids that couldn't stop looking at me... after meeting me and receiving their candy, they would be walking away with their parents, but kept turning around and staring back at me with eyes of happy wonder. One little boy was in a food line with his parents across the parking lot when he spotted me, and I waved, and then he left the line and ran over towards me with outstretched arms and gave me a hug, gazing up at me. Got the same treatment from a little girl, too. Really gave me a good feeling spreading happiness, just by my presence. Had a lot of pictures taken of me with kids. Costume-wise, I noticed some batman and batgirl, also some iron man ones, and a fair number of "Marshalls" and "Chases" from Paw Patrol. Now, kids aren't the reason I fursuit; I generally prefer the convention scene with furry adults, but I did have a really good time last Saturday. Got my mind off of other things. Planning on returning next year, hopefully in a full suit!

Summer Summary
Posted 7 years agoWell, considering I wasn't planning to go to any cons this year I made out pretty good. Went to Furthe'More back in April, really last minute pre-reg, etc., but I went and had a good time. Drove down to Tyson's Corner with
deer riding along. Stayed with
cheesebeagle and
tigris. Got to meet
sarahcat, who had a table in the artist's alley. Also saw the Rocky Horror Picture Show for the first time ever- might not ever again, but it was an experience and I'm glad I did. Also met a really nice lion buddy
cullion at the Fursuit Menagerie, which I enjoyed more than the parade (which they didn't have this year anyway). Really nice time at this con, which was well attended. As usual, saw lots of cool fursuiters. Ended the con by having dinner & a hilarious card game with Cheesbeagle & Tigris & friends. Good times.
deer was my riding buddy so it was an enjoyable drive home.
Skipped Anthrocon as planned, just absolutely could not afford it this year. BUT... I was there in spirit, all weekend! Watched the livestream at home, live as it happened in Pittsburgh. Watched the nightly dances up into the late hours, saw the masquerade, Anthrocon tonight, and Fox Amoore's live release of his new CD (The Dreamcatcher). Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Saw the fursuit parade as well. And the Dance Competitions! Love this livestream, lets me experience the con even if I can't be there. I actually took off Friday from work so I could be available to watch the con stream.
Went to the beach briefly, twice, in July & August- Wildwood & Cape May, NJ - toured 3 lighthouses. And wow, lots of bikinis everywhere (not complaining)!
Went to Furaffinty: United at the end of August, also somewhat unplanned. I had three goals for this convention: 1- get Fox Amoore's new CD & autograph; 2- perform in the talent show; and 3- meet and photograph lots of cool fursuiters. All three goals were accomplished, two of them on Friday. I also bought the HashTag CD & got it autographed (played it later and it's really good!).
* I played my flute in the talent show Friday night, performing Andrew Lloyd Webber's song "Memory" from the musical "Cats". It went pretty well, and was very well received. Made a few mistakes (probably because I was shaking) but overall it went to my expectation/satisfaction, and I plan to do more music performances in the future. Haven't been on the stage by myself in over a decade. And thanks to all the nice folks who complemented me, it means a lot. Kelix and Geel ran the show this year for VonDiggityDog, and I think they did a great job with it, making it fun and flow.
* On Saturday I ran into Lucy and Lina, two nice girls I met at my first FA:U in 2012; it was great seeing them again.
(Note: too many of my camera pictures are turning out blurry, I hope to get a DSLR this fall if I can afford it.)
* On Sunday before I left, Cheesebeagle kindly did a 50+ pic photoshoot of my Leostarr fursuit partial, which is up on Flickr with all his other pics from the con. Amazingly only one other person (I think) posted pics from this con (that I saw), and there were only 4 or so videos on YouTube. FA:U seemed to be not as well attended as FTM, though I still had a great time and plan to return next year. I hope it survives!
My birthday is this coming Saturday. Hopefully I'll get a cake with Everest (from Paw Patrol) on it... omg she's cute. Would actually like to have an online party Sat night if I could figure how to set up for such a thing- fursuit stream, of course, would need to have YouTube or Vimeo or Skype or some kind of video group chat... hmmm, don't know, we'll see. It'd be a drag to fursuit on Sat. by myself & not share it with anyone. But prob too hard to put together at this late date.

Return of the DE Furbowl is tonight!
Posted 8 years agoAs everyone familiar with it no doubt knows by now, the Delaware Furbowl is back again and will be starting in less than an hour. I had considered going, actually really would have liked to be there seeing all the cool fursuiters I've seen sign up. However, due to availability schedules, my family is celebrating Father's Day today instead of tomorrow, so they wanted to have me around tonight. That, and also the furbowl is now further away for me than it used to be. Used to take me about 2 hours to get to the lanes at Price Corners. 2 hours wasn't bad, the drive was more or less low stress and worth it to get to hang out with these amazingly cool fursuiters. But the new location tacks on an additional 20-30 minutes, something like that, and the roads at the end look like they might be high stress super highways (which sucks), after I've already driven 2 hours. So, I finally decided not to go tonight. Plan to go some other time, not sure when that will be. Will be seeing the movie Dr. Strange tonight, and getting up early tomorrow to visit York Airport's Open House aviation events. For those of you that are going to the furbowl, have fun, I hope the new location works out great, and I look forward to seeing picture posts and tales about how the night went!
made it! In VA for FTM
Posted 8 years agoI wanted to do the Furthe'more meme thing, but have had absolutely no time to get on the computer with work and getting ready for this convention. So this will have to do. Left PA shortly before noon, arrived in the area at about 2:40pm. Came down via my car with
deer riding along. Currently hanging out with
deer,
cheesebeagle,
tigris,
kesthewolf, and
tehalbi; having a good dinner shortly. Will be heading over to the hotel later this evening to check the place out. I never preregistered so I'll have to do regular reg tomorrow morning.

Change of plans- FTM is green and go!
Posted 8 years agoChange of plans from my earlier post- happy to say I'll be making it to FurThe'More after all. Was kicking the idea around today with my mate and she encouraged me to go if I wanted. And it is one of my favorite conventions, just didn't think I should spend the money since things are really tight for us this year. Anyway, after a few texts, this evening was talking with some of my good furry friends and within a half hour everything was settled and I made the decision to go. Woohoo! Talk about last minute planning. Will be heading down on Thursday, staying through Sunday afternoon. Leostarr's partial needs some TLC maintenance, don't know if I'll have time to do it now before the con but we'll see, and will go with what we've got!
No cons for Leo in 2017?
Posted 8 years agoOK, well, thinking out loud here... time for a bit of an update, lest this page get too stagnant with the glaring lack of submissions.
I've been thinking a lot about my convention plans for 2017. I did have them. But FurThe'More kind of snuck up on me this year; I knew it'd be in the springtime, but that was a long time away and... now it's one month away. Made no plans, now it's a bit late for that. But considering a number of factors, I may not be making it to any furry conventions this year. Really need the money for funding something else, for someone else, for them to be able to seize an opportunity this summer. Also, Leostarr still exists as only a partial, which is starting to feel lame to me. Now don't get me wrong, I like partial suits, in fact most of the partials I've seen are done very well, but I've been doing this one now for the past 5 years, and it's always the same old thing, and really needs more. I still give Snap two paw thumbs up for making my head so good-looking, but I'm ready for a fullsuit to go with it. I've had the material to make it for years now but have not figured out how to make it the way I want it yet. Designing things sucks. So I might not attend another con until I have the fullsuit... when I go to a con I want to bring something to contribute, you know, something new to show off.
I am attending two other non-furry conventions this year, so I need money for those (can't go to everything). For one, I'll be at the Central PA Comic Con this Sunday (April 2) with Kaya Cheetah... I'll have the Leostarr partial with me, but may or may not cosplay with it, depends on the atmosphere and activities. I did wear it last year, and it was a pretty decent hit. Original characters seem to bother people at Sci-Fi/Anime/Comic Cons though for some reason; they want to see characters cosplayed from TV or movies that they know... if I had the fullsuit, I'd cosplay as Aslan from the Chronicles of Narnia, but I don't think the partial is going to look right for that. This con is easy for me to attend because it's local and no hotel stay is involved, so is inexpensive.
If any, the one furry con I am going to shoot for this year is the New Year's Furry Ball. No guarantees, but we will see. Sorry to say, as for the rest, I won't be attending FurThe'More, Anthrocon, or FA:U in 2017. I will miss them. But there's always next year.

Not well this weekend
Posted 8 years agoScooping the cat's litter box is hard to stomach when you're sick... but, must be done, so there, dear sweet kitties, your box is fresh and ready once again! Hoping I feel better tomorrow.
New Year's Eve
Posted 8 years agoEnjoying a peaceful New Year's Eve home alone this evening with beautiful Christmas lights and music setting the mood. I was invited to a party but came down with a bad cold yesterday (hopefully that's all it is), so I stayed home tonight to help recover and not spread it around. Prob should not be drinking wine right now, but hey, it's New Year's Eve, so I'm going for it.
Some of my friends are at the New Year's Furry Ball right now, no doubt. I wish them all a wonderful time there! I hope to be there next year, depends on whether or not I finish Leostarr's body, and if Lyra's partial is done (and if Lyra can go, already invited her). Well, more about that in another post.
Hmm, I had more to say but have already forgotten what that was. So, for now, happy new year 2017 everyone!

back on FA, and AC16
Posted 9 years agoYay! I'm finally back on FA. Haven't been on since early May, account was locked out but I finally learned how to get it re-established today. Yay!
Many of my friends are at Anthrocon right now, enjoying the dead dog party tonight. I didn't go this year, could not afford it, but I've had a good weekend still. I experienced many of the core activities I enjoy when I attend the con by watching them on the livestream this year, which was great. I couldn't be there, but was with the con in spirit. I even saw the fursuit parade live as it happened, which was livestreamed by WTAE Pittsburgh TV 4. I cheered for all my friends as I saw them, and also for some new suiters I spotted that I really liked.
My favorite act from the Masquerade was Sundance Wolf with her beautiful singing of "Climb Every Mountain" from "The Sound of Music." Also enjoyed the girl doing the flag routine, but my computer locked up part way into it and missed the rest of that performer. Also noted that a number of performers played guitar on stage, in fursuit, and did a great job! All did well.
I will return again someday to this wonderful con but not going this year was the right decision because I just could not afford it. I wish my friends (and everyone else, for that matter) a safe return trip home. Looking forward to reading their writeups as they come in.

Duct tape dummy completed
Posted 9 years agoLate this afternoon (February 21, 2016) I finally completed my duct tape dummy (DTD), or duct tape mannequin, as I rather prefer to call it, since I don't like using the word "dummy". Of my own body, for making my fursuit. This DTD project took a very long time (not going to say how long), the stuffing of which was wrought with problems, but now finally is done. I can move ahead with pattern creation now.
So next I will attempt to make a pattern for Leostarr's bodysuit, and then onto the bodysuit itself. I only have about a month and a half until FurThe'More 2016, so we shall see what happens. My deadlines are unpredictable as I never know what problems I'll encounter. BTW I finally finished up Leostarr's bowling/ice skating fursuit feet paws in mid-December. These feet paws were the hardest thing I've made yet for this fursuit. Will be posting pictures of the paws here on FA when I get around to it.

Going to the dogs today
Posted 10 years agoHeading out in a few minutes here, to go to the dogs. The flyball tournament is being held at the York Expo center today and tomorrow from 8am-5pm in Memorial Hall West, and I'll be there today to cheer on the dogs and meet some of them. For those of you unfamiliar with this sport, it's a competitive activity for dogs and their owners, kind of like a relay race. The dogs run down a straight track, jumping over hurdles along the way, then rebound off the side of a box at the end which ejects a tennis ball. The dog catches the ball, then flies back down the runway over the hurdles again, back to its owner. These events are electronically timed. Dogs of many breeds will be there, but especially the herding breed, like Border Collies, Australian Shepherds, Corgis, etc. Large and small. The dogs love it, and there is lots of barking. They will be there running all day today and tomorrow. Oh, one more thing, this is a free event for spectators, at least it has been the last several years. And I believe that well behaved leashed dogs are welcome to be brought along (please use discretion). No flash photography (flash distracts the dogs), and of course no fursuits (just common sense).
I had wanted to post this a week ago to give a heads up if some of you wanted to attend, but was anxiously working on stupid taxes... it has not been a good week. But today, the dogs will cheer me up. :)

Anthrocon 2014 journal
Posted 10 years agoWell, I was going to write a chronological journal of my trip to AC14, but that would be more for my own reference and might be somewhat boring to read for others, as it was getting quite long. Therefore this journal will just hit the highlights of my visit. Link for my pictures is at the end.
Leostarr's Anthrocon 2014 convention highlights:
* Took the train this year. Arrived in Pittsburgh on Thursday, July 3 at 8:00pm.
* Went to the Westin gift shop first thing upon arrival and bought myself one of those black "rocking Pittsburgh" Anthrocon T-shirts. Yes! Finally got one; love the design on that shirt (I think it's the best design on any shirt they ever put out).
* This year I roomed with Provo Cheesebeagle, Tigris, and their friend Girs, on the 19th floor of the Westin hotel. And, there was a giant pretzel in our room!
* Fursuited a fair amount in my Leostarr partial, still without feet paws :(. I tried to get them done but there was still too much work to do on them and time ran out. Next year, hopefully I'll have a full suit as well. Despite looking the same as I did in 2012, I did have fun with the fursuiting!
* Watched the July 4 fireworks display over Pittsburgh from our hotel window on Friday night. Nice show!
* Visited the dealers' room Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It's one of my favorite things to do at the convention!
* Went through the art show. Did not bid on anything, as I had limited luggage space.
* As I was walking down the artist's alley (wearing my lion partial), an artist at one of the tables saw me passing by and called out, imitating Snagglepuss's voice, "oooo, it's a lion, like ROAR even." That was really funny; I like getting positive attention like that.
* On Friday an electrical problem developed in Leostarr's head, and I did not have a repair kit with me. Later that afternoon a fellow fursuiter graciously offered to help and immediately took time out of his schedule to effect a temporary repair, which lasted all the way through past the end of the convention. My sincere thanks and gratitude to Wood for helping a lion in need!

* Panels / Events I attended:
- Opening Ceremonies (I always attend this)
- How ByCats4Cats Does It (fursuit construction info and Q&A, run by Snap, who made Leostarr's head!)
- Feline Friendly Furry Fiasco (meet & greet panel for cats, held both Friday and Saturday, made it to both)
- Uncle Kage's Story Hour (this year, joining Kage on stage, they also had musician Fox Amoore playing appropriate little keyboard runs during the story, and also a signer for the deaf.)
- Anthrocon Tonight (performance-oriented variety show)
- Dances (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday DD)
- ByCats4Cats Photoshoot

- Fursuit Parade (I walked with Kijani lion again, just like my last AC in 2012! There was actually a group of us lions walking together, so I found a pride!)
- Fursuit Character Development and Improvisation (by Cheesebeagle and Tigris. I participated!)
- Masquerade (the cute cheetah fursuiter Angela Cherrie and her spinning plates was my favorite act of the night! All were enjoyable. And I got a great seat to watch it all from as well.)
- Late Night Jazz (keyboardist Fox Amoore and singer Amadhia, with guitar/bass backup from Rhubarb and Alexander James Adams. Excellent! I came expecting some good music and was not disappointed!)
- Fursuit Dance Competition Finals
- Closing Ceremonies

* Something I did different for AC this year was to switch to 2 meals a day instead of 3. Lunch always seems to get in the way of some events I want to attend. So the plan was a big nutritious brunch each mid-morning, and then dinner in the evening. I did this every day at the con, and it worked out well.
* Dealer's room goodies: I bought a cute little black panther plushie (she needed a home). Also got several prints from various artists, Tani DaReal's beer coaster set & postcards, and 2 autographed CDs from musician Fox Amoore.
* Went to the Dead Dog Party on Sunday night, took lots of pictures there.
* My favorite new fursuiters from AC14 were:
- Angela Cherrie
- Ren Fuchs
- Lisa fox (Aoi Kitsune)
Of course there were many, many others I liked a lot, but these three made it to the top of my AC14 favorites list.
* Only problem this year was lack of sleep. I arrived at the con with a sleep deficit to begin with. I shared a bed and my allotment was too narrow, and therefore could not relax or sleep well. Too bad it wasn't until the last night when I figured out a solution for this- I pulled the heavy covers off the bed (which no one was using) and slept on the floor Sunday night (well actually Monday morning since I went to bed after 2:30am), and slept very well there until 6:30am (ugh!) when I had to get up to leave for the train. Despite this, I survived and I had a GREAT time at Anthrocon 2014! Woohoo!
And now, my pictures... all of my Anthrocon 2014 pictures have been uploaded to Flickr; album link is:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/85823.....7645387933170/
That's 82 pictures over the first 3 days, and 111 on the last day (with all the fursuiters that show up, the dead dog party is always a great opportunity for picture-taking)!

AC14 report coming eventually
Posted 10 years agoI should be in bed right now but I'm writing this journal first. Last weekend I was at Anthrocon 2014, and I had a great time. I am however running on a severe lack of sleep that was going on before the con even started. Among other things, I was trying to complete a pair of feet paws to finish my partial, and was up late several nights, even the night right before the con. I hit a snag and could not get them done for AC. But I still had a great time at the con, just couldn't get much sleep. No time to do things anymore... didn't even finish my FurThe'More con report. So I'm changing the way I do them... I'll be writing a brief summary of the con events for each day, only going into detail on a few. And I will also upload all my pictures in full res and include a link in the report for you to find and view them.
The post-con depression really hit me hard today, thought I was immune, but a week after the fact it's hitting me now. Well, going to bed... haven't got 8 hours sleep for over two weeks. My Anthrocon 2014 report will be coming, hopefully in the next week.

Fur The 'More 2014 report, part 1 of 3
Posted 11 years agoFinally uploaded the first of three intended parts of my con report from my visit to FurThe'More 2014:
Fur The 'More 2014 report: Friday, March 14
No time to work on this stuff anymore it seems, and I still haven't done my taxes (what a drag), so guess it's tax weekend for me. Visited the Central PA Comic Con last weekend, would love to do a writeup with pictures from that... don't know if that will happen, got to finish up my FTM reports first!

updates and FTM
Posted 11 years agoI had an absolute great time at the Fur The 'More convention last weekend! Was so busy this past week that I could not even begin looking through my pictures until Wednesday night, and only a few at that, which was frustrating. I'll need to go through all the pictures yet, and write my usual detailed con report... could take another two weeks. The report is a lot of work, but fun too; eases my PCD. I loved that con, I actually felt happy there! Additionally, the con has stimulated my own creativity & arts- now thinking about doing something for the talent show sometime in the future... we shall see.
Have been losing stuff around here the past year. Misplaced my bag of glue sticks, which is partly to blame for why I didn't get my feet paws finished in time. Weeks ago was going to watch The Matrix movie with Kaya Cheetah, but when I went to get out my dvd, could not find it... aaaa!... there's another thing lost. My camera tripod is missing- how does one lose a full size tripod? And other things too... okay, I'll stop complaining. Too many piles of disorganized clutter lying about. These things turn up eventually, but not when I need them. One good thing, I just found out today I can buy glue sticks individually, so I got two of them for the interim. Tomorrow, hopefully I'll get back to working on the paws. Got to do taxes yet too, and my mother's as well, ugh!... I'll tell you, that convention was a wonderful vacation away from all this chaos.
Was outside an hour ago and noticed it was clear, so I gave the skies a scan. The stars! Beautiful, I love them. There's Orion, Sirius, Jupiter, Ursa Major, and... hey! It's the constellation Leo the Lion, high in the sky! Woohoo! That's where my fursona Leostarr got his name from. Started out with Leo in 2007, but that was so common, I soon modified his name by adding "starr" to it.
Hope to get the Friday, March 14 FTM con report written and up by the end of this week. Depends how busy I am with other stuff.

I'm coming to FurThe'More
Posted 11 years agoI posted a FurThe'More meme journal the other night but then I deleted it. I didn't like the way I worded some of the answers... maybe it was okay but it was bothering me so I deleted it. I don't know who writes all these memes in the first place... always seem to have some awkward questions that have the potential to make you look bad in some way, shape, or form.
Anyway, in summary, I'm going to FurThe'More this coming weekend, all three days. I'll be getting there late Friday morning, commuting each day from home.
I'll be bringing my lion partial, Leostarr. I'll probably be 'suiting about half of the time I'm at the con. Very disappointed to say that I still will not have feet paws for him. I'm actively working on them now, materials are cut, etc., but they are just not coming together fast enough to be ready in time for the con.
In usual fashion I'll be coming to the con with me, myself, and I. My racked-up itinerary of planned panels looks like a dual-major's college class schedule and will be very busy if I attend everything I have on my list. I'll need to squeeze in some time to peruse the dealer's room. One of the panels I plan to attend is "Tips on Being Social at a Con." I'm definitely not the social butterfly.
Well, that's about it, I guess. Looking forward to seeing a number of people again, specifically
lucycatx3 ,
laruefoxtail ,
cheesebeagle ,
tigris ,
renashe ,
~snow~ ,
chainerprime , and more!

designing feet paws
Posted 11 years agoI've been sitting at my drawing board on & off for weeks, trying to design feet paws for my lion fursuit. I hate designing things. I enjoy making the things when I have an established procedure and materials list, but figuring it all out from scratch sucks. It takes forever.
So, I'm looking at the drawing sheets I have taped to my board. Finally got a top view I'm fairly satisfied with, but now I'm having trouble generating the side profile views with cross sections for each toe. I'm referencing lion anatomy images of paws, looking at pictures of real lions, and looking at the housecats' feet. I ask myself, is this right? After all this effort, are they going to look right? I sure hope so. I see other builders seemingly throwing stuff together, with pretty decent results. I can't work that way, I calculate and measure everything for accuracy, and I complete the design in detail before cutting any material. First time perfect is what I shoot for.
Not really asking for nor expecting any advice here, just wanted to vent my frustrations a little.

No flyball this year
Posted 11 years agoEvery year at the beginning of December, I go to the local expo center to watch the flyball competitions. Dogs from many different breeds compete in this relay race activity. They run down a straightaway, jumping hurdles along the way, rebounding off a special box at the end which ejects a tennis ball when they strike it. The dog catches the ball, then rockets back down the track to the starting point where its owner awaits, enthusiastically cheering the dog on all the way. The event is electronically timed, and the team with the lowest time wins.
While any dog breed can participate, there are certain breeds which excel at this activity. There are a lot of border collies, also Australian Shepherds. The event is full of happy, excited, barking dogs, so it is rather noisy if you're used to peace and quiet. Also, there is a doggish scent in the air.

It's become an annual ritual for me, but I guess I won't see them this time around. For the first time in many years they're not having it here... it's not on the local schedule. Instead it's being held up near the Hershey, PA area on December 7-8. That is too far for me to travel as a spectator only, and it's also the same day as Furbowl. Oh well, I'll see if I can catch them in the spring.
