Thankyou so much for the reaction video man, was great to watch. Loved hearing your take on my song :) Just came across your channel and subscribed!! I really connected to what you said at the end and I think precisley the fact that you're aware of your imposter syndrome and are able to articulately break it down for me highlights one reason why so many people are watching what you do! Takes alot of self awareness to admit that and people like and respect honestly and authenticity and I think to admit that is as honest as it gets! Have a great day man! Looking forward to checking out more of your stuff ❤

MrLboyd is.... just different. Well spoken, insightful, respectful, honest, open, and genuinely (one of a) kind. I saw this video (Hi Ren) a week ago and I KNEW it was going to be huge and have just been waiting for the "big" reactors to pick it up... seeing this video I literally said out loud "Oh F* YES, here we GO!" because once it's here, I know others will react to it in hopes they can be a tenth as authentic as MrLboyd... I hope you both know how much you are changing, and are going to change, people's lives for the better. As some like to say: Congratulations.

"What you're finding intriguing about me is really just my oddness." This is spot on actually, because a lot of us are odd too so we see ourselves in you-and that's not a bad thing. You're authentic. And really, the oddness and authenticity is what make "Hi, Ren" great too. There's a large portion of our culture that is just fed up with the fakeness and lies and just wants to connect with people in real ways.
Speaking of which, I'm never disappointed when I see you reacting to something I love, and this was no different :)

You give great reactions to the songs you listen to. 3. Your honesty is very refreshing. I'm two reaction videos in, and I'd like to hear more. 4. I will add that the fact Mr. Lboyd has traveled extensively, shows as a wider understanding of things, compared to someone who has a narrow understanding shaped by contact with limited number of points of view. I know people who don't have the opportunity to travel don't mean to be narrow minded, I grew up like that, but in my experience to expand one's criteria one has to read and one has to travel. Mr. Lboyd seems to have both, making his comments wiser and deeper.

He does something that I've never heard before, his last musical phrase of the song, in his final stanza he doesn't do the downbeat and the last vocal "oo", instead he uses a full rest. No minor chord question or full chord answer, it just stops mid way.
It makes your soul long to "know" what's going on, musically speaking, so his final soliloquy completed it.
    THAT is genius.

I keep thinking what it must have been like to be around when Shakespeare was. He had to be surrounded by other people that knew what he knew, but they could only do parts of it themselves. And then you see somebody put all the peices together at the same time and everybody has a big picgure moment together and 6 or 7 hundred years later we get to do it again.

"Hi Ren" is a masterpiece. For many years to come, this will be a reference showing how a performance can draw attention to issues.
This track, and Ren's delivery, will help a LOT of people. Both those suffering with mental illness, and those who try to understand it.
It is a mind- and heartseeking missile.
    As for your Imposter Syndrom:
A person I highly respect once told me (and I'm not sure if he stole it somewhere ;)): "Why bother to fit in, when you were born to stand out".
    You, Sir, stand out.
That is the reason we listen to what you say.
    All the best, from Denmark

A great singer and composer once wrote,
"I avoid those who hide what they are" (David - Psalms 26:4). Yet here we are in a digital age that is rampant with many who hide what they are. Hi Ren was diametrically opposed in this general direction and so were your concluding comments. Both brought to light what typically are very private thoughts which are well hidden from the masses and sometimes even from themselves. You and Ren admit to what you are but more importantly in the process reveal WHO you are. Exposure is not a bad thing, any photographer surely knows the truth of that statement. Without it we would not have a complete picture to process. This is why people listen and watch you and Ren, you both present a complete picture by which we can frame a perception based on realities that we ourselves can relate to.

If you set the video to around 9:20, you can see where MrLboyd slowly starts to realise a leprechaun or similarly magical creature has teleported a slice of lemon into MrLboyd's mouth. From there you can watch a battle of wills as MrLboyd does his best to manage the increasing volume of lemon slices and juices being teleported into his mouth. He eventually pulls through this maelstrom of magical attacks, and I have to respect it.
Either that or MrLboyd is human like the rest of us and got hit with the same emotions that the rest of us did when we first heard it.

Started making peace with it a couple years ago, and then we found this "song"... 13:38 - Ren is a busker from the streets of London, frontman of The Big Push. He's been dealing with Lyme Disease (the autoimmune disease) for years now. Yes, this was one take ( as far as I know.) There's a video from Ren talking about the inspiration for the video, and a video from Ren when he was on the very edge of suicide.
Ren is a virtuoso and a genius, without a doubt. Check out the Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full.)

I love that early into the song the "dark" Ren spat at "light" Ren and told him to drown in the white noise at 3:51, then at 10:28 "dark" Ren goes off and becomes that white noise to try to drown out the message of hope "light" Ren is representing. The lights flickering while "dark" Ren is active is pretty dope, too.

Okay stop...hold up...your Imposter Syndrome Soliloquy at 14:16 is as real, as vulnerable, and as authentic as this song itself...it's like it caused you to open up and say, on THIS platform that, essentially, you don't understand why you have this very platform. And then your analysis of the same, like "You guys watch me because of my differences", I mean, and you're humble in general I think, but this isn't an "I'm humble" statement, it's just an authentically real truth about your reality and that is DOPE. And for me to comment on a Hi Ren Reaction video about something other than Hi Ren says something in itself. Dope. I didn't know you had Asperger's and I've watched your stuff before, but EVERY THING you said in this reaction is something I also thought. When you said "He thinks like me and that's cool" or something, I got that cuz I thought that. I don't have Asperger's, or don't think I do, but I'm sure I have a lot of "things", but there's a lot of similarities in our thought processes...you are far more concise about your thoughts than I am...all day lol...but it's the same thought...this Work of Art was/IS special. I commented on one of Ren's earlier songs (watch Bittersweet Symphony (the Verve Retake)) telling him to "keep doing whatever it is that you're doing because whatever it is, it's working" and I'm gna say the same thing to you because bravo on this video.

  • @ronpotts6385

Whether one is mentally ill or "normal" ( like that exists...), this song is about one's eternal struggle with self-doubt. If you take the spiritual route in analyzing it, it's about the Devil telling you you're not good enough, so you should just give up. Either way, though I have no personal experience with mental illness, I can still relate to this song so much. I have a lot of favorite "parts" and lines, but the part where he talks about standing on his one two feet, while literally doing that very thing, gave me chills. The flashing lights remind me of a movie that also dealt with mental illness and psychiatry, "Garden State". In that movie, the protagonist described experiencing little "flashes", kind of like electrical surges, as a side effect of his meds. Ren is clearly a genius, and after watching a few of his videos to I learned that his problems began with a psychiatric referral, when his root problem was actually Lyme Disease from a tick bite. From that point on, his psychosis and other issues were the result of medication. Beware of certain medications, and always get second opinions when you have doubts.

You're insightful, perceptive, introspective, observant, smart, grounded, sharp, aware, open to new ideas, non-judgmental, organized and articulate. I had a strong reaction like you on hearing "Hi Ren". My imposter syndrome was wondering why people cared about me like I was something or someone special.
10 years ago I was diagnosed with MS and have struggled through it with the help of my friends who I constantly felt I was letting down and not worthy of their care, I was just me, and was my worth, worth their care. I started looking inward and back to better days and in the process, I missed the here, and the now as I battled with people who did care no matter how I viewed my worth. Eventually, the depression that was killing me and my friendships lifted just a little and I saw that I could right this if I dropped the facade of being strong and openly accepted help. I realised that accepting help is not weak.
So hope can be "the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope." a lyric that resonates and it can be as simple as a friend who cares.
If you feel no one cares believe me when I say I care.

The reason I've always watched you is because I just get the sense that everything you say is really what you think, and I find your analyses interesting. Now today I find out that you have Asperger's too LOL. So it's a kindred way that you talk and apparently probably some kind of similar facial expressions to the other people I've met with Asperger's around whom I feel comfortable as well. Thanks for sharing that you're on the spectrum too. :) Anyway so about Ren, anyway so about Ren, I just heard him for the first time about an hour ago and was shockingly impressed. So I typed in your channel and his name to see if you had reacted to it and presto, here we are! Anyway man, great too hear that you had a similar reaction and high respect for this masterpiece "Hi Ren". Lovee when you said "bars" to the pendulum light darkness lyric, as i felt a similar respect for his poetic words. Then i hear you mention Asperger's and i smiled with recognition as the puzzle pieces snap into place. Always a pleasure to hear your reactions, good sir. Keep being you. :)

I love watching you react to a song that I love and vice versa I love when you introduce me to a song that I’ve never heard that I’m thankful to add to musical library. You’re genuine, honest and respectful and sadly that’s rare traits in today’s world.

You saying that you struggle wondering why we watch you is crazy to me. The humility you have in that statement. I watch you because your reactions seem super clear, you catch things that I miss, and your tone of voice is soothing. You are incredibly unique and you deserve all the followers that you have. We appreciate you. Keep up the great work!

Came for the Song, stayed for your wonderful reaction. For me, you are a wise man - that´s the first vid from you I´ve ever watched and you directly touched my heard. Ren is such a gunies artist and "Hi Ren" is one of the deepest songs I´ve ever heard and with your reaction, the emotions you transport through your words, your voice and your eyes - puh, man...I didn´t cry realy truly for years, now I am sitting here, watching this video the second time in a row and can´t stop crying. Rens words, your reaction, everything you say...it touches me in so many ways - thank you, thank you so much 😌

We watch you because we enjoy “hanging out” with you, in a weird parasocial (but hopefully not unhealthy) sense. You don’t come across as performative and that’s rare.
Also, Ren is amazing!! Just found him today and…yeah. He deserves any and all success coming his way.

Ren is amazing. His range is phenomenal, both vocally and stylistically. From Humble and Blind eyed to Money game pt2(she sells sea shells reference in Hi Ren) and the Tale of Jenny and Screech(not Saved by the bell Screech 😉) trilogy. And the more rap orientated What you want(I'm pretty sure you'll hear the 'influences lol) and Power.
Not to mention the busking video's with the Big Push.

This is totally live. All of his music videos are live and most in one camera shot.
I'd highly recommend Ren's Tales Trilogy; Jenny's Tale followed by Screech's Tale and then Violet's Tale. On Ren's RUclips channel he has the trilogy in one video. I think you'd find it very interesting.

For me, an artist with imposter syndrome, I completely understand your thought "why do you watch me", I don't understand why people like my work. For me personally, the reason I watch you is the way you articulate your thoughts on the music. The way you break down bars and explain what they mean. The way you explore all levels of the piece you are reacting to, and mainly, the way that you FEEL the music. My first video of yours was the I'm not a vampire revamped video. The way the climax of that song hit you was the exact same way I did and I subscribed right there. You are great at what you do! I hope we can see the beauty in our work the way others do very soon! Much ❤

I am not usually a fan of music reaction videos because many seem forced and contrived. This is the first one of your reaction videos that I have seen, primarily because I too was blown away by this artist and track. Your response mirrored mine when I first saw this a day ago. I couldn't really believe what I was hearing ... if a song can be perfection, perfection in lyrics, prefection in musicality, perfection in timing, perfection in conveying feeling and most importantly perfection in touching the listener's very soul ... this song is it!
BTW, your voice is so melodic and soothing that it makes listening along enjoyable. Keep on reacting.

Thank you for reacting to Ren. His brain/heart/emotion and hurt need to be remembered. My daughter has Aspergers, I have ADHD, and he sings them all into our hearts with humility and raw truth. He's a child of the inner, deeper world of human beings. He is us. We are him.
Thank you for helping Ren to make it where he deserves to be. He was found by Sony when he was busking and dropped by them when he became too sick. But by sickness and illness makes the best songs and tunes. I remember Alison Moyet saying that her best songs were written when she was heartbroken. It matters. You matter. We matter. HE matters. If he leaves us we must forever hail his talent. Such a brain should never be dimissed.
Watch some of his other stuff.

I wanted to share it with you, because you are genuine and thoughtful and open, and because I thought that you attract people who will appreciate Ren. To answer your question, having found you through this video, you are the first person to actually articulate how i feel about this song, i've now watched a few of your videos and your analysis is pretty spot on each time. I originally found ren through a song called money game, must have been a week before this song released, and when it did it opened my eyes, it was like someone reached inside and showed me how i felt and what it was i was going through. the message at the end i have thought about daily and gives me hope that life isn't just this feeling, that i can find peace.

Btw 2 years of watching you and I had no idea about your Asperger’s and all I can say is that’s your superpower to your subscribers. We watch you because you offer more than “Oh…that’s a dope song or a funny comedian. I liked it.”
You give us insight into how it makes you feel, share your knowledge about the subject, and never pretend to be more knowledgeable than you are about a given topic(which is hard for you because you’re brilliant). “I refuse to live a life where I am ignorant of a single subject,” isn’t just a throwaway quote from one of your videos-it’s an affirmation for life. Thank you for all that you do.

There aren't many songs that contain lyrics that can my the hairs on my arms stand up. But when Ren goes off, it happens. Bravo. This is genius level stuff here.
In regards to your question of why people watch you. Of course I can only speak for myself, but I watch you because you come across as just a real person. Not a persona or character. Also, I like the perspective you give on these reaction videos. Often times I agree with you, but not always. But even when we disagree, I can still respect the info you bring, and sometimes even I see where maybe I was mistaken and learn something. I watched this video in particular because I wanted to see if I was over reacting with how amazing I think this song/video is. But after watching your reaction, we feel the same way. Keep it up and I'll keep watching!
