Accidntally makes an intro that'd be one of the coolest looking ads for Ford Trucks that I have seen in a while!
Ford needs all the help they can get. Along with the rest of the auto industry
Same thought. Working truck doing serious things in a work environment. Ford Trucks work for the working man.
This episode of Deisel Creek brought to you by Ford and Milwaukee.
Came here to comment and saw yours lol. Great minds think alike
Another comment about the intro. Thanks, Matt, for bringing back the intro music!! Love the videos and, as always, can't wait for the next one!

Matt: "Can we save it?"
Me, sitting on my lazy butt drinking coffee and eating a breakfast burrito: _You fckn better_
Never had one for breakfast, they any good ,, edited ,,, I live in northern Ireland, no mexican restaurants near me , or in the country lol 😂
did someone say burrito????
This is the kind of thing I HATE doing in real life, I'd rather be doing anything else than getting cold, wet, frustrated, dirty, cut, grazed, bruised, having a mental breakdown, etc, but somehow I LOVE watching someone else doing it🤔I suppose I fool myself that I have just successfully completed some hard satisfying manly work, all from the comfort of my sofa.
@@rickybell2.056 they typically have breakfast ingredients like sausage and such. I'd definitely give one a try.
@CharlesWhite-j4f yep, I’m a natural born idiot. We stopped yesterday because the body filler wouldn’t go off in the cold of outside :D
This was one of the best "will it start" videos I've seen in a long time. Talk about catching on the last revolution of the pony and it sounds absolutely fantastic.
Once the pony was running the diesel fired right up. I was impressed.
And then ending the video with just casually driving off with half a forest.
@@Stoney3Kreal estate 😂
SPOILER ALERT!
To be a 1967 model CAT, and to have to sat out in the elements for 25-27 years, and to have it running without having to take apart the engine or transmission or that the hydrolic lines are still capable to hold all that pressure from the hydrolic fluid and pump is amazing. Caterpillars are def built to last. And to be hand build without the precision tools we have today to build machines is absolutely amazing! Great job on getting it running, but to the unsung heros of this video, the people that built this thing that have probably passed on now shows the pride in the work they did to build these things to last. It's amazing.
And it was a cold start
We'll never see that kind of craftsmanship and pride in workmanship again. This monster was from a bygone time of true beasts...the machines and the men who built them
@@patriotoftruth-v1wI agree with you wholeheartedly. The one caviat I would add is that there are still guys who design/build things to last...just not in corporations. I'm a machinist and self-taught engineer; I build things to be serviced and to last. The problem is that it's expensive to do so. I wish more people thought less with the initial cost and more with the long-term; you can buy a used car and fix it with WAY less money than the new car, if you're smart and willing to put in some work yourself. Craftsmen are still out there, just expect to pay for what you get (unfortunately, and I include myself in that statement)
That's the best thing about old school heavy machinery!! Now days everything is computerized and will cost you a lot more money to repair and fix. Have had a 1968 310 case dozer since early 2000's and have had to fix very little, hydraulic lines and tracks is the only problems i've had.
I am surprised that you two are allowed to play together! You put the smiles on us all. Thank you both!
They're both Adults (physically anyway, Mentally is another story entirely) so their Mothers know they can't stop them anymore...
Undoubtedly, since their Mothers DO know them so well, both have moved somewhere FAR from Pennsylvania to escape the inevitable Disaster these 2 will eventually create when they play together...
I would not be at all surprised if both their Mothers have moved to Hawaii...
Just in case...
😄😁😆😅😂🤣
They are one hell of a duo forsure
These old Cats are so amazing. I honestly didn't expect her to crawl out of her own grave like that. Well done, fellas.
No shit they are a true testament to how well things “use” to be built
@@JD-gt7il I mean, its a construction machine.
Out of all the will it starts you’ve done. This is the coolest start I’ve seen you do. This machine is worthy of a revival and a paint job. It screams USA, way bigger and louder than it needs to be and we love it
This video gave me chills. As a 13-year-old, my grandfather owned A.D eight that's set next to his house for some fifteen or eighteen years. I was told as a twelve year old child that if I could make it run , I could have it. So for more than a year and a 1/2.I farted around and worked on that machine.Just as you did in your video. Worked on the pony motor just like you guys did. Work on the Magneto.. Lubricated.
Most of the stuff that you guys did. Got the pony.
Motor to run one day but no one had ever explained the rest to me.. I engage the motor. Then I pulled it into high range. Engaged it again the motor spun. Pushed forward on the compression in the throttle and off this thing went.
I was 13 going on 14 in a runaway D8 in my grandfather's yard next to the house.Heading towards the garages and all the trucks that he owned. It went about a hundred feet before one of the black guys jumped up on the back of the bulldozer and got to me and stopped it. The only thing my grandfather said to me was.The kid has to know how to run it before he goes home to.Night. My dad showed up. Said you really got it running. And that's how I became a heavy equipment operator at fourteen years old
And a proud owner of that D8 right?
Right?
The story is kinda more epic than this video BTW. With a twist, a final scene and all
ok, this story wins the internet for me today :)
Nothing better than seeing two men work together. Friendship is really priceless.
This is the kind of content we all were accustomed to in this channel, where matt goes and revives old engines. 🎉
👍YEP, couldn't agree with you more!

Yup, my favourites too!
That was the best coldstart video I’ve ever seen! The intro is amazing, your guests were amazing, and that cold start was unbelievable! I hope you do a RUclips short of that! Be well.
I wonder what Derek’s doing today
“Guys at my estate sale are going to be impressed at a lot of things!” That’s the best line I’ve heard in a while 😂😂😂
That’s quite a challenge! These old machines always have fascinating stories behind them. Hope it roars back to life! Wishing your channel continued success!
A friend in need is a friend indeed, Sam being there to help out is a true verification of that.
The comments wouldn't let me a new comment so I am placing my comment here you can count the number of rings in that tree to get a better idea of how long the dozer has been sitting
I think this one is my favorite rescues ever… it had everything. Giddy hope, crushing anxiety, the joy of victory, and the agony of de feet 😉. AND the way the pony died just as the diesel caught enough of one cylinder to keep itself turning… one of the best cold starts in all of rusty iron in RUclips history!
What a blast!
God I wish I could go on one of these with you guys! I used to do this kind of thing all the time, but that was 30-40 years ago and it just feels good watching you young bucks pick up where we left off!
Exactly what I was thinking! It's been a while since we've had a field rescue, and this one was spectacular!
Same here, at 71, but the only wrenching I actually like anymore is on the Harley. Or additions to my 4x4 Dakota!
I was a truck mechanic for International Paper company for 29 years ,and that was 25 years ago and to see this video brought tears to my eyes, we had 2 of the old D8s and the problems you had just getting the pony motor to start brought Back so many memories …… I can’t THANK YOU ENOUGH for posting this video …….. you’ve made me a follower for life…….. Matt & Sam [ Scrappy Industeries ] are an awesome team together, and each one brings their own knowledge to any project. Their videos together working on machinery and their own videos are always awesome and I am never disappointed. The Poney motor, with a bit of help started and ran great!, and then with some more work, Matt gave Sam the honors to start the ole girl and OMGosh, she sounded great!! Glad Matt finally brought a chain saw, on day three! SWEET to have a machine with a ripper on the back! Never know when you might need one of those, Better to have one and not need it than to need one and not have it.WOW!! you half a block of property stuck to the blade!! The ole girl looked beautiful running up the hillside. NEEED to see another video on her!!
Sam zapewnia wiedzę i doświadczenie. Miło go oglądać
Just amazing to watch Sam, Matt and the crew apply their obvious mechanical skills and knowledge to resurrect the reluctant beast of a machine. Their patience and troubleshooting skills are just outstanding. I really enjoyed watching this video. I like the way they gently coaxed the machine out of the frozen position. These young men are truly gifted and I wish them even more success. They got the "Right Stuff"
Thanks so much! It’s a labor of love
Shocked when the pony fired and basically ran good with your in the field carb o/h! Total brain bend when the big engine lit with little trouble in the middle of winter and sounded good doing it! This is one best d-8 will it run videos ever! Thanks Great Show!

This is the greatest of the dozer rescues you’ve accomplished. All from the throws of great disappointment to the triumphant beast awakening from its slumber and breaking the bonds of trees holding captive. Be happy and rest peacefully. Looking forward to seeing this machine raise its head and turn some dirt. Best wishes.
I agree! This one was definitely a satisfying rescue.
This channel being under 1 million subs needs to be studied. The best quality equipment restoration and rescue on RUclips. This man is so underrated.
I'll take that as a compliment, thank you!
@ 🫶
For any old gear, if you can change it to electronic ignition / (solid state) it does away either all the issues of tired magneto, poor "contacts" on magneto, weak magnet/s, tired points etc.
Suddenly you have amazing strong spark
Starting of poor starters suddenly is no longer an issue.
I've updated a number of old magneto engines and always been impressed with the results.
Some of these motors I've known from.new, and know they were never good starters hot or cold, but updated became an absolute dream
I cheered when she backed out of her grave. That was great. Sam is such a positive energy guy to have around.
One of your best videos!
Retired Local with 150 operator 37 years in the seat. Between Sam and yourself you guys are unstoppable 👍!
That fellow sam, is a very nice friend to have. Matt is lucky and blessed.
Sam has his own channel. " Scrappy Industries " or something like that.
I love Sam's videos especially when his young boy is there. Reminds me of me and my dad working in his shop on diesels. I started about the same age
As a retired diesel mechanic....very impressed lads. So nice to hear the old girl going again, especially through some great quality speakers....
Stupid RUclips popping this comment up and spoiling the end of video. Ain't your fault though, RUclips cycling comments at the bottom did.
Absolutely nothing better on A Sunday Morning than a 90 minute video from DC!
Epic rescue - even better with Matt and Sam + big John collaborating. Congrats boys on a phenomenal rescue and thanks for taking us along. Love the longer video & rescue. Look forward to seeing this old girl being brought back to full running state. DC for the win!
I used to love being outside rescuing old cars, motorcycles, and equipment. But after my accident being stuck in a wheelchair those days are over for me. I really enjoy watching you and your friends in action, the way you film makes me feel like I’m there. Thank you. Eddie wheels 😬🧑🏻🦽👍 NJ.
Commenting a few days ago about the knowledge base about to be lost. Talked to some young guys who complain about not knowing or being able to work on equipment. I advised them there are older guys who would love to share the knowledge if they were just asked. Eddie it sounds like you could mentor some young guys. Giving safety lessons from a wheelchair should make a Big impression.
Mat, just had to pause to buy you a cup of coffee. I am just amazed at your knowledge of the machine. I am a retired Air Force Heavy Equipment Operator. I trained on the old Cat D8 (cable operated) It is obvious you have a passion for these marvelous "Beast". Have fun young man. Oh yes, and watch your knuckles.
Thanks so much! Definitely have a lot of passion for them!
This has to be one of the all time great Diesel Creek episodes, one for the books! Quite possibly the best rescue/cold start I've ever watched! Loved the cinematic intro with the titles/graphics and banging tunes of course. The way that old diesel barked into life from the dying pony like the perfect transition it doesn't get any better than that and Sam is the man for pulling that off! Massive thanks to Big John for the awesome filming. Cannot wait for part 2 this made my weekend thank you all greatly.
From the INTRO - to the COLD START - to CRAWLING OUT - that was FREAKEN EPIC!!! 💪👍🤘
What a nice and genuine fellow Sam is!!
Love to see this! I rode on my Dad’s D8 when I was a kid. He was working building an orphanage in Holyoke, MA and Church funds were tight. Dad had two D8’s welded together with a ramp between them so he could move more dirt! Somewhere here there is a picture of him and the Cardinal of the Church, both riding the dozer. It was on the front page of the Springfield, MA news. RIP, Dad!
John and Matt play off each other nicely. I’d like to see him in more Diesel Creek vids.
Exactly!!!!
I really didn't think the pony would start after seeing the inside of the carb. Kudos to you two for getting it to run and move.
Matt I love how you are showing and telling the haters to pretty much f*** off. Keep up the amazing work. Your awesome.

Rocking a d8... Never thought... Wow, love the sound and after a 20 year nap...
That was fun to watch! As is often the case with most RUclips videos I just happened to run across this while flipping through for some other stuff.
I appreciate the opportunity to bring old things to life rather than discard them. Plus it's fun to see your troubleshooting knowledge at work. 😁
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Stick around we save a lot of old iron!
My Dad had a 46A , purchased used in 1968, it was 3yrs old, had tne same ripper on it. When the transmission didnt give troubles it was a great machine. Worked well with his 50s era D8's and 619 scrapers.
Heat would probably have been the better choice for demagnetizing the needle. The curie-temperature is below critical temperatures for the material. The neat thing - you can let the magnetized needle dangle form your hammer and heat it slowly with the torch, once it hits curie-temperature it just falls off and you don't overheat it.
If you have 110 volt ac handy a soldering gun (the type with an open loop of wire) will work quite nicely as a demagnetizer. Just start the gun and move the item to be demagnetized slowly through the loop. Remove the item before shutting off the gun.
This is one of those old fogey tricks that is almost impossible to find when you need it, and an absolute lifesaver to know in advance.
Congratulations 🎊 There is nothing like great teamwork! Got the dozer unstuck and running! It's a miracle considering how old it is! Thank you for sharing this, I really enjoyed this video!
Incredible restoration effort! Seeing a legendary CAT D8 brought back to life after decades of inactivity is both inspiring and a testament to the durability of these machines. The engineering behind these old bulldozers is incredible, and watching your team troubleshoot and solve problems in real time is truly fascinating. Can’t wait to see it back in full working order
Well that was awesome! Great to see the old girl moving. Thanks for the smiles.
Yes indeed. I flashed back to 1967 when I was 17, at a construction site. My boss taught me how to operate one of them. It was awesome indeed. I had fun moving dirt.
A new high in Matt videos. Just look at the comments. This is the “A” team of Matt and Sam at their best. They have set a new standard of excellence. Outstanding!
Amazing video as always.
I would also love to see the big ass loader that was sitting next to the D8 in the end. Who is with me here?
Keep it up with those old reliable girls.
Recent insta posts did show another loader in the fleet....might be that one?
Matt, your prowess at getting these old girls started is just amazing. A spot of rust remover and a pint or so of paint and she will be cherry!
I’ve never watched this channel for the cinematography/photography. However, that opening shot of the ford driving and pulling up to the dozer was fantastic. Great work to whoever did it
That was a fun shot to put together
I think I've already said this once before. But I love how much of a goob Matt becomes whenever he's got friends around helping him. It's so weird to think that he and I are both around the same age but it's so fun to watch him have fun doing stuff like this with friends
Wow, one of the best back-to-life images ever, the big chunk of dirt and ice...no blown hoses? amazing. well done.
Holy smokes! Talk about a testament to your perseverance, hope and faith to get this bad boy running!
Out freaking standing!
It’s always a better day waking to a Diesel creek video - Thanks Matt. You said something that hit home with me regarding your ground. Growing up in the country of upstate NY where the soil is so black rich and beautiful, one thing we always needed was a pry bar . Amazing how rich the soil is thanks to glacier activity but also how rock filled. Had a man here who did nothing but collect rocks and boulders and stack them - pretty cool actually - old guy, who also used to bring his steam tractor to the fair every year to run rides off the pto. The town I grew up in is Honeoye falls Ny. Fond memories and whenever you show your place woods etc it sure makes me homesick other than the cold slushy winters and gray skies. Thanks again for taking us along on your adventures Brother.
I grew up in Rush but had a Honeoye Falls mailing address
Gotta love lake effect snow to live upstate.
This might be the coolest revival you've done yet!
Cool? It was frozen out there. Really cool...
Of all your videos, this one in my opinion is the best! Put a massive smile on my face to see that old diesel fire up against all odds on the last little cough of the pony, and then continues to pull itself and 10 acres of land with it! Love it!

Those old Cats. Ya can’t kill em. My Uncle owned several D8’s from the 40s. We used them cutting logging roads in Vermont. My cousin ran one through a river and it got in too deep and the engine filled with water. We pulled it out, drained it put in fresh oil and it ran just fine. The pony engine start was the way to go. You could crank the diesel for an hour if you had to until it would start.
That was the most epic cold start I’ve ever seen though! Incredible save Sam!
I could watch you get old equipment started all day! Love it when you and your friends work together, thats how we did it too.

That was quite an abandoned for years cold start ordeal, Matt, but you guys pulled it off in epic fashion. At the end after you moved her and shut her down your partner spoke my thoughts when he was surprised the hydraulics worked and stayed working after pushing them hard to unstick the blade and raise the ripper. Like he said, he expected to get a hydraulic oil bath when any or all burst under the pressure after so many years. Well done all! Looking forward to the haul her home video!

I know it's a massive project, but this would make an excellent complete restoration. One of my neighbors rebuilt a D11 of the same era that was literally in a scrap yard. This machine sounds amazing. This would be a project I'd full heartedly watch 24/7.
They didn’t build the d11 till 1986. This machine is 1968.
@DieselCreek I'm not sure what year his machine is, but I know it's an old yellow CAT.😂😅

My neighbor and friend of my family Ken Kunkle worked for Beckwith for 40 years and was one of the orginal road mechanics there, I bet he worked on that machine at one time. He always went to the National Pike steam show. Ken passed away a few years ago. Im sure he’s smiling seeing you guys getting that old Cat running! I have some of those Beckwith plaques and other old Cat manuals, books he gave me. Have the plaques hanging in my shop. Awesome video !

I’ve gotta give you guys credit, despite all of the problems you’ve had a positive attitude throughout the entire process and you never even considered defeat.
That to me in this day and age you just don’t see anymore. YOU GUYS ARE ABSOLUTELY AWESOME ! 😊 Sorry I’m missing your awesome video, got to get back to it.
Good to have a friend like Sam. That tree growing around that hydraulic hose was hysterical
I don't think I've cheered out loud when Matt's got one of these old beasts moving but this one impressed me greatly, what a wonderful old machine! :D
Well, 3 Points to this video:
1.) It is paradox that you needed to remove a biotope to rescue a CAT
2.) The view into the exhaust looked like the entrance to Shelobs cave
3.) seeing the first movement I can imagine only one name for this CAT: Treebeard!

Leaving a comment before I get into the rest of the video.
The first one minute of this was just lovely from a cinematic perspective; especially when pulling off the road through the mud and weeds. The red truck just looks completely at home in its natural habitat doing that. Wheres the work? Off road? Don't care. Lets get it.
