- We have to know how to name ionic compounds. Not any name we want like Jeff or Larry, there's rules for how to name them. And look at all these adorable polyatomic ions!

Do you ever just wanna cry when you have lost hope and planned to fail, but just decide to check RUclips on more time, and you find this glorious man?
Yes
I cannot stress enough how vital your videos have been to my comprehension of a variety of chemistry concepts. Thank you so much, Professor Dave.
he has taught me more in an hour than I've learned all year in class
He jus taught you in *5minutes* lol
@@adjhki5741 we've been learning this for weeks in chemistry and i understood it better in this 5 minute video then i have in my chemistry class, why do teachers make things more complicated then they need to be?
@@james-ee3lc if they won't the syllabus will be comepleted early it can reduce fees of some month
guys u don't have to overact
dave taught me more in 5 minutes and 43 seconds than my chemistry teacher did in a week, something is wrong with our school systems
Professor Dave is a living legend.
thats exactly what im thinking, it's because they have to let the idiots who dont want to learn/people who don't learn things fast catch up and leave the smart people bored and hating school even more than the people who aren't smart

my mom walked by while i was watching this and asked "is that jesus?" lol.
I can't believe that Professor Dave explained at 1:34 what I'd been trying to figure out for days in two seconds. If my teacher had just explained it instead of technically speaking a different language, it would be SO much easier. But as my teacher can't explain it very well, Professor Dave is a lifesaver. Thank you, Professor Dave!!!!!!!!
Long live Chemistry Jesus.

@nathan kape shut up idiot he is literally chemistry jesus and you should respect that

Thank you Chemistry Jesus
My teacher: Teaches it with this weird ass strategy.
This guy: Teaches it well
Thanks man
Bro, I've wonder about this for a while and it was stupid hard to get a straight answer. This guy is goated for explaining it well.
the most clear chemistry concept channel so far in youtube
Ugh. This is the hardest thing for me to grasp about Chemistry.
@Angel Cruz if u subtract 8 from the group for instance oxygen is group 6 so u will subtract 8 that will give u -2 charge.
this is like learning a whole new language XD
@@morepizza605 not really, just getting stuck with roman numerals is difficult though
Keep going, don't lose hope

I’m a chemistry tutor and your videos are so helpful for me and my students! Thank you!
THANK YOU ! Your videos are definitely helping me through college chemistry.
I was struggling on ionic nomenclature but this explained it so well I feel so much better for the test. Thank you Chemistry Jesus!
I have a recitation in advance chem tomorrow and here I am. Thank you so much for the help Professor Dave!
I have a chem test tomorrow and needed a really good refresher I’ll update after the test
How'd it go
@@crazyraptor2907 I don’t remember exactly which test this was for (obviously 💀) but I ended chem with an 87. All the tests went really well

Wow! We are doing ionic compounds now. And, of course, covalent compounds, too. I'm not sure if you are working on (or getting ready to) a video about covalent compounds yet, but that'd be great. I have a pretty solid instructor (first ever chemistry class at the age of 24 in college), but... I get lost in the transition despite paying attention the best of my abilities. You are the man, PD. Thanks for everything and keep up the great work.
Had my teacher explain this for an 1 hour and you did a better job in 5 ish minutes, thank you
I just learned more than in my 1hr 30 minute class... thanks !
Thank u,Dave. A video from 9 years ago really helps solving my problems in Chemistry
you help so much and get to the point. Just learned a whole lecture in 5 minutes!!
Damn this is a lot to memorize for a test in hours
Super Helpful! I like how concise the explanations are
helped me with my first science exam. thanks dave
shoutout professor dave for helping me get this hw done 8 years later

You are one of the best teachers I have ever seen.
Please keep it up.You are really doing a great job.
I love the check comprehension part thats awesome thank you
Hey Dave, great break down of naming Ionic Compounds.
Be blessed sir you make me understand chemistry than before

I was crying over this and IM SO GRATEFUL FOR THIS VIDEO TO EXIST TYSM DAVEE
I just have some questions
Why isn't CrO4(2-) Perchromate but chromate.
And why is Cr2O7(2-) Dichromate?
Need answers urgently. Thanks in advance.
So well done explanation, video, everything!
You’re the reasons I’m passing chemistry

Quick question, for naming ions with different oxidation states what do you do if there is more than two? Example: Manganese has 5 different oxidation states.
I think he mentions the Stock system (roman numerals) at 2:05.
Here’s how you would name manganese compounds with different oxidation states:
- Manganese(III): This indicates manganese in the +3 oxidation state. For example, Mn₂O₃ is manganese(III) oxide.
- Manganese(IV): This indicates manganese in the +4 oxidation state. For example, MnO₂ is manganese(IV) oxide.
@@jimmusamma1635 Ok, thanks!
I learned more in a 5 f*kn minute video than I've learned in 3 months with my trash ass professor. I ask a question and he says "watch RUclips" or "you'll figure it out" instead of just explaining something to me. Glad I paid a "higher learning" institute to teach me chemistry.
Hello professor Dave! As always let me start by thanking you because your videos help me a lot! This time I don't get why in 3:44 you say that *S* has an oxidation number of -2. If so, what oxidation number does the *O* have here? Thank you again!!
so not the sulfur atom, but the sulfate as a whole! we know that SO4 2- is the sulfate ion, so the whole thing has to add up to -2, and 4 O's add up to -8 so sulfur is +6.
Oh I see!!! Of course! Thank you professor Dave!

This was a great video, thanks!
Well presented Prof👌
its good to listen from u sir
at 3:59 why cant we use iron(lll) phosphate to achieve noble gas configuration directly. is it because then there wont be valency of the atoms?
Awesome and easy learning videos!!!! love these videos.

I'm a senior in college for a non-science degree, yet need to take a science class (ya that's not an oxymoron or anything) and my professor directs us to Professor Dave. She needs to be sharing her paycheck with him.
I know everyone is saying that this is super helpful, but this is somehow the first video in the playlist i am majorly stuck on.
Maybe its because i use this as my primary learning resource. I just dont get it.
Thank you sir fr everything ❤
Prof Dave you do all.
hi professor dave. i just want to ask if the subscripts we place below cations and anions (sometimes enclosed in a parentheses) to make their charges neutral affects their over-all molar mass. thank you very much
yes definitely! if there is a subscript indicating two sulfate ions, then the mass must take into account both of those sulfate ions.
so for example, the iron (II) phosphate in 4:04 where in the phosphate has a subscript of 2 means the phosphate must have 2 moles, thus making their molar mass doubled?
it means that there are two phosphate ions per formula unit of the salt, so when calculating the formula mass, you need two phosphates, and so two phosphorus atoms, and eight oxygen atoms.
thank you very much professor dave! you've been a very great help to my teaching career here in the Philippines. thank you!
at 1:10 you say the stuff over there will be 1-, 2-, 3- and so forth so does that me that carbon is 4- and boron is 5-
pretty unlikely for those ions to form, but not technically impossible. also, they can go the other way to form cations too.
dear my chem teacher
if you're reading this, please resign
-your student
Great overview. Thank you.
Thank you Prof. You are the best 👌
What if we made an ionic molecle for extracting rare earth elements.
A ionic attached to enough other atoms to alter the charge and have that impeded in a dent in a protein like strutue.
Then that precipitates and is then suspended in something else and treated to release the rare earth element.
Thank you Professor
I thank this man for saving me
Hes great!! Ive even checked to see if he has videos on nursing lol
